Palo Alto College identified five challenge areas, and several different programs were put in place to address the needs of students and faculty, including cutting down the steps for enrollment and enhancing student support with technology, virtual peer mentors, and paid internships. a remote setting. DEI professional development was provided to faculty, helping them meet the students where they were at in this difficult time. The COVID-19 pandemic has had a significant impact on our students’ educational success, especially in STEM fields where college readiness is critical. Our goal is to promote success in and enthusiasm for STEM fields for all students, with a special focus on erasing the disparities for Native
American students that have been exacerbated by the COVID experience. An ultimate outcome will be that Fort Lewis plays an important role in diversifying STEM fields.
