Recently, the United States Court of Appeals for the 6th Circuit on April 23, 2020 recognized a constitutional right of foundational literacy under the Fourteenth Amendment. The decision addressed conditions for students in Detroit public schools, but it elevated the argument around the need to educate all children to at minimum a 21st Century standard of basic literacy.

This work is closely associated with the educational equity work of our INCLUDES National Network members, the emerging national "We the People - Math Literacy for All" Alliance, whose Shared Values Statement is dedicated to ensuring that students from historically under-resourced and marginalized schools and communities are given access to structured opportunities to gain the mathematics literacy they need to be prepared to graduate from high school able to do college mathematics without remediation or pursue careers without their mathematics education being an obstacle.

Please sign up and join the conversation on July 9 at 2 pm ET.
